(no subject) [May. 19th, 2006|08:32 pm]
Andrew James, born 4-14-06 at 6:22pm
8 pounds 3 ounces, 20 inches long, head 14 inches

Hi everyone!! I have missed SO much. I havent even read LJ in over a month. I want to catch up on everyone. Hopefully I can do that soon!!

Back on April 16th, my husband posted about our son Andrew being born, and basically wrote the birth story. I wanted to write a more detailed one myself, and I still might, but for now I have no time. When Andrew was 9 days old, our apartment flooded from the sewer line. We've been living with my parents since then and won't be back into our apartment, its just not good for me and the baby. In fact, my mom and my husband are over there now packing and loading up our van. We are moving into a new apartment on June 15th. I cant wait! We never really got to establish a routine and I felt like we havent really bonded as a family yet. It has been hard, living out of my parents' family room, but it has also been great cause my mom would get up with him in the middle of the night if I was too tired. We've been lucky with that.

Anyways, I have some pictures of him posted to the internet. My parents only have dial-up, so I havent been able to upload any pictures since we've been here. He is now 5 weeks old, and was 10 pounds 9 ounces at his appointment last Friday. He's breastfeeding SO WELL and he is also taking breastmilk from a bottle! They supplemented him in this hospital and I was so worried he would get nipple confusion, but no problems at all.

Here's the link for the pictures on the day of his birth. I have a ton more on there though, so check out the other folders. I cant wait til I can get recent pics on there, he has changed so much! I will try and write a detailed story soon!

Andrew's Birthday!

Top 6 TV Shows [Apr. 12th, 2006|11:15 pm]
Stole it from delusive

Write down your top six favorite TV shows, then answer the questions under the link. Write down the list first and make sure to number the titles. They don't have to be in any specific order. Do not look at the questions beforehand.

1. ER
2. Law & Order: SVU
3. American Idol
4. 7th Heaven
5. Golden Girls
6. Friends

1] Who is your favorite character from #2?
Eliot Stabler

2] Who is your least favorite character from #4?
Rose, Simon's girlfriend

3] What would a crossover between #1 and #5 include?
Blanche would sleep with Kovac, Sophia would be in the hospital, Dorothy and Stan would get into some argument while driving and end up in the hospital beating each other up, and Rose would kill everyone telling St. Olaf stories, bringing an end to ER.

4] What is your favorite ship from #6?
Whats a ship?

5] If you were to set one person from #3 and one person from #6 on a blind date, who would they be?
Joey Tribiani and Kellie Pickler, cause they both seem so damn stupid, but a lot of it may just be an act.

6] If you could meet one person from #4 and spend the day with them, who would it be, and what would you do?
Kevin Kinkirk and go get ice cream (I DONT KNOW! LOL)

7] If you could change one thing about #2's plot line, what would you change?
Make it so Fin wasnt so dramatic all the time.

8] Explain a relationship between two people (not necessarily romantic) from show #5, and why you like the relationship between them.
Dorothy and Sophia, they have an awesome mother-daughter relationship.

9] If the lead title characters (first name in the credits) from #1 and #3 were both drowning, and you could only save one, who would it be?
Whoever it is on ER, cause American Idol is just dumb sometimes.

10] If you could change the title characters' order in the credits for #4, what order would you choose?
I think Happy (the dog) should be first LOL

11] If you were able to add a new character, any kind of character you wanted, to the storyline for #6, what would the character be like and what would their role be?
Someone for Joey that he could be cute and romantic with.

12] What happens in your favorite episode of show #2?
There are so many episodes I dont know... but I like it when the bad guys lose and when Eliot and Olivia work together.

13] If you could kill off one of the characters of #1, who would it be and how would you do it?
Morris, I guess... I dont know how.

14] If you got the chance to visit the set for either show #3 or show #5, which would you choose?
#5 definitely cause the Golden Girls are much cooler than AI.

15] So, I saved the best question for last. If you could date anyone from any of these shows, which show and which person?
Either Chandler or Stabler (what is it with these "-ler" names?)

38w6d Appointment [Apr. 11th, 2006|09:27 am]
My blood pressure was decent - 138/72. Higher than normal, but much better than lately. I am still only dilated 1cm but I'm now 70% effaced (I was 50% before). The doctor said the baby is ready, he just needs to make an appearance. He also said he doesnt want me going past next Wednesday, so we'll see what happens. I think that was about all from my appointment. I go again on Friday for an appointment and a non-stress test. I'll be 39 weeks 3 days then.

Back pains suck [Apr. 9th, 2006|10:21 pm]
I've been having lots of back pain today. Back labor I suppose. But nothing regular. Just enough to overtake our trip to the Broadway Market (big Easter tradition in Buffalo, mostly for polish catholics, of which I am neither LOL), ruin our dinner at the Olive Garden, make me completely and utterly miserable in the car (I was practically crying it hurt so bad, but I got to practice my breathing!) and basically make me stay in bed all evening. I took a bath because my legs have been killing me all day like I had run a marathon. I don't know why. Even sitting at the computer hurts and I have to get up and move around. Whenever baby moves, it HURTS, like he's beating the crap out of me inside. It feels like someone punched my crotch. Literally. I touch it and it feels bruised. Ugh. '

Almost 39 weeks. Doctors appt tomorrow.

37w6d Appointment [Apr. 3rd, 2006|09:40 pm]
38 weeks tomorrow! Yay!!

I had my doctor's appointment today. My blood pressure was ok, better than it has been. 136/80 I think it was. Either than or 130/86, but I think it was the former. It's always lower at home though. I've never been anxious at the doctors until the last few weeks, and of course thats when my BP is high and they freak out. No wonder it's high when I go now. I'm so afraid they'll say something or do something because of it.

Anyways I saw my regular OB today. He's such a sweetheart. He took me off of the strict bedrest and said as long as I lay down and rest in the afternoon and not go out to stores or shopping where I am on my feet a lot, he will be happy. He hasn't seen me in awhile (since I was 34 weeks, so almost a month ago - I've been seeing the other 2 in the practice) and he's like "The baby's DROPPED!". It was funny the way he said it. He checked me and I am 1cm dilated. My fundal height is 39cm. I didnt ask about effacement or station, but last I was told, I was 50% effaced and -1 station, so I assume I am the same or more unless I'm headed in the wrong direction! I go for a non-stress test on Friday and my next appointment is Monday. I'll be 38w6d.

Other than that, things were peachy. Still having a lot of Braxton-Hicks in my back. I hope I don't end up with back labor. I get pains in my cervix every once in awhile, so I really hope they are helping things along. I'm getting anxious for the little guy to get here. Andy put the rest of the stuff up on the wall tonight - the bear wall hangings and the little one's name (SECRET!!) and I think we are pretty much set. We made a list of people we are gonna call when the baby is born and I made a list of things that need to go in my hospital bag. It is somewhat packed, but I want to go through and make sure my list is all there.

Only a few more weeks!! Yay!!

36w6d Appointment [Mar. 27th, 2006|10:22 pm]
Well, I will be 37 weeks tomorrow. Yay for full-term!! :)

I had another appointment today (had one Thursday, was put on bedrest; went in Friday for a BP check, and then back today for a follow-up). This time I had it with a different doctor in the practice (there are 3 in all) who didnt even MENTION induction or c-section, unlike the doc on Thursday, which was NICE.

He measured my fundal height (was 41cm on Thursday) and it was 37cm. So he was like "hmmm... I'm usually not wrong, let me recheck" so he did and it was again 37cm. So, he did an internal and the baby is at a -1 station! He's been head-down for awhile now, but its nice to see some progress. A few weeks ago I was told I was 50% effaced, but they've all been so worked up over my blood pressure, I keep forgetting to ask about effacement and dilation. I forgot today too, so I'll have to ask next week. The doc was great and was like "here's his little bum, and his feet are right here" (yeah, I totally knew the position of the feet, since they are in my RIBS! LOL). He was funny too, you can tell he's Canadian, and compared the baby moving into the birth canal to the large freighters that move through the Welland Canal in Ontario. Luckily, I've been across the Welland Canal many times and knew what he was talking about.

He also felt my belly and was like "can you feel that?" and I was like "what?" and I was totally having BH contractions and didnt know it. I was like "My stomach feels like that all the time", so he waited for it to relax and had me feel again, and lo and behold, it was squishy again. So I've been having lots of BH contractions and not knowing it. I told him the only time I feel them is when they are in my back.

In all my appointment was good. Still on bedrest and low-sodium, but things are ok for now. I go back in a week, when I'll be 37w6d. I do have permission to go to my grandma's 80th birthday dinner on Sunday though, which is nice. So today's appointment was much more uplifting than last week's. My mom is coming over tomorrow and doing more baby-room set-up, and my lovely hubby worked his butt off this weekend doing baby stuff too! I'll have to take pictures of the quilt he hung on the wall and everything. It's beautiful!

36w2d Appointment [Mar. 23rd, 2006|07:44 pm]
Ugh. I had my appointment today. The first part was good, the second part, not so good.

I had my ultrasound. Baby is measuring 36w5d, so right on target, but for some reason they are concerned that he is big. He's only measuring 3 days ahead (or maybe it was 37w5d, but still, only 1w3d ahead). He is estimated at 6lbs 5ozs (yes, I know these measurements can be off, and I am hoping for that). I was born at 36 weeks and weight 6lbs 11ozs myself, so I knew a big baby might be in store. We got some cool shots with the video camera, and more head pictures from the tech. I wanted a good foot or hand still picture, but he was wiggling too much. I did find out that the thing that keeps poking me under my ribs is his little foot. And his hip is what is sticking out of me LOL He is head-down still. Yay! My husband had to work and missed the appointment. My mom and sister came in with me though for the first time and the tech was really nice at explaining everything to them. Neither of them had sat in on an ultrasound before.

Apparently the ultrasound made the baby tired though, cause when it came time for the non-stress test, they had to buzz the baby to wake him up. LOL It was funny. My mom and sister saw the baby squirm around and move my belly all over the place, it was cool for them. After baby woke up, he did great.

Before my NST, they took my blood pressure. It was something like 140/98 (not sure about the 140 part). So the nurse said she'd take it when I was done with the NST. Went down to 130/88. Better. However, the doctor is worried about my blood pressure AGAIN. He talked induction, but generally wont induce until 38 weeks. I told him I didnt want an induction, but he said with my BP being high, my chances are increasing. He also said my chances for a c-section are greatly increased now. I guess if my BP is too high, they skip the induction altogether and go right for the section. I wont do anything to put myself or my baby in harms way, but I want to progress into labor naturally, and really really really dont want a section.

I've been told to watch my sodium intake and basically he wants me on bedrest all weekend. Ugh. I know, some people are on bedrest for the whole nine months, so the next few weeks isnt that bad, but I feel like I am so much left to do.

I go again on Monday. He wants to see me twice a week now. I'm not seeing the same doctor though, but another in the practice (there are 3 total). I really want to see my regular OB, but wont get that chance til the second appointment next week, as he is off on Monday.

Oh, and I take Toprol XL for preventricular contractions (PVCs). It's a category C drug and the doctor said he does not want me to breastfeed if I am on it. I asked him if I could wean off of it before the baby is born, and he said to contact my GP about that, since he is the one who prescribed it. I called my GP when I got home, and I am to take half the dose for 7 days and then I can discontinue it. (I was on 75mg when I became pregnant, went down to 50mg, now I will go down to 25mg and then none). I'm so glad. I think the thought about not being able to breastfeed was about as devestating as him stating my increased chance of induction or c-section.

So... I have a question... for those of you who have had PIH, did you go into labor naturally or were you induced? Did you end up having a section? Also, what are some things I can do to lower my BP (besides rest, obviously)?

35w2d Appontment [Mar. 17th, 2006|09:59 pm]
I had my doctors appointment yesterday at 9am. The doctor wasnt even there yet because he got stuck in an emergency c-section. Good thing was I was scheduled for a non-stress test first, so I had that done. The baby was sleeping, so they had to buzz him to get him awake, and then he did beautifully. Stuff showed up on the contraction monitor but the tech/nurse person said they were just from the baby moving around. By the time we were done with that (9:45), the doctor was there, so I went in the exam room. Thought he was gonna go nuts on my blood pressure again (140/80) it was the same doc who put me in the hospital last time, but he didnt mention it so neither did I. He measured me and I am measuring 40 weeks. He wants me to have another ultrasound next week to check my amniotic fluid level (which I think is fine, cause baby still seems roly-poly in there), the position of the baby, and estimated weight, etc. After I was done with the appointment, I had to go across the waiting room to the lab and get blood drawn for a hemoglobin check. Not sure why, or if thats normal. By the time I got done it was 10:40. My mom was sitting in the car the entire time crocheting. She doesnt want me going to the doctors alone anymore. So, I was there for an hour and 40 minutes. Next week I get another non-stress test, an ultrasound and an appointment. I'll be there for like 3 hours! LOL

34w2d Appointment [Mar. 10th, 2006|10:35 am]
Yesterday was my 34 week appointment. It was uneventful, thank goodness. My blood pressure was 124/84, and the baby's heartbeat was strong and super loud! The doctor was like "That's one happy kid!" which was nice. He asked if I was good last week when he was out of town, and then he looked at my chart and saw I was in the hospital and was like "Nope!". It was funny. He's Indian or Middle Eastern so it's funny with his accent. He told me he wants me to have a non-stress test every week from now on. I've had one pretty much at every appointment since 30 weeks (except this one), so its nothing new. The baby is measuring at 37 weeks, so we'll see how much longer this lasts. They did the test for Group B Strep (they have to swab both openings "down below" and when they swabbed my butt, it tickled and I laughed out loud. The nurse thought it was funny.

Things have been going pretty good. I am getting tired so much more easily now. Not too many false labor contractions, but when I do get them, they are in my back and they are EXCRUTIATING! This kid needs to turn over. I can tell he's dropping, if I am up and walking around a lot, gravity takes hold and my crotch hurts.

Sorry if this was TMI for some people LOL It'll be worth it when you can see pictures sometime in the next 8 weeks! :)
